Pregnancy Journal: 15 1/2 weeks

Week 15, 4 days

Today was our monthly check up (weeks late) but still better late than never. It’s been rough trying to get in to see our dr. he is very busy and in my opinion takes way too many patients. Anyway, on to the good stuff..Everything appeared fine, they checked my urine for sugar (I think that’s what it was) and that checked out fine, blood pressure good, lost a couple more pounds making it just under 10 pounds since my first appointment. This worried me a little, but the dr. said I am fine and the baby is fine as long as I am not vomiting up everything that goes into my mouth which hasn’t really been happening. So, he says the weight lose is fine, so it’s fine. It’s just shocking, as I feel like I look HUGE already! I wonder where the weight is being lost?? Certainly not my waistline, or bust area! lol whatevs. As long as we are both healthy so be it!

We were waiting for the dr to listen to the heartbeat with the Doppler except he didn’t have it with him for some reason so he tells us we get an ultrasound! We haven’t seen the little baby since we were only 7 weeks pregnant, a long time ago! And it looked nothing like a baby; it looked like a little egg, or jelly bean. Anyway they are so stingy with ultrasounds, it seems as though they don’t like to give them often. So you can imagine my excitement when he told us we get to see the baby today! I was SO excited.. When he put the scanner thingy on my belly a small baby showed across the screen! A baby! Not a jelly bean or egg, but a real life baby with arms, legs, a belly, a nose, fingers, toes…..INCREDIBLE! I was literally speechless, and the only words that could come out were…It’s actually a baby in there! And the dr responded, “well of course it’s always been”. Lately I knew in my head that I was pregnant but wasn’t quite sure at times. You know…my belly isn’t huge or that obvious yet, the sickness has pretty much passed, and I don’t feel a baby in there so I couldn’t help but wonder sometimes if I was still pregnant or not. Well after today, no questions there! It truly was amazing to watch our little bug moving around, it’s little arms and legs flapping around as if it were swimming. I asked the dr. to check for the sex, after some maneuvering he found the perfect position to access the image of ‘the goods’ and alas the little legs were crossed….(Which I mentioned to Kenny later at lunch how LADY like that was of her! He then responded with a grunt and mentioned under his breath something about everyone being against him..ha!) Oh well, we will see. Next check up will be a month from now, on the same day we will schedule the actual ultrasound and (keep your fingers crossed) sex of the baby J Can’t wait!

Fried Chicken Dilemma

For small group this week I am in charge cooking dinner. I was thinking Mom’s potato salad (Ohhhh YUM!), fried chicken (I know so unhealthy), and corn. The problem is I am not very good at making fried chicken. I tried once before and I am so paranoid about the chicken being cooked all the way through that I fry it too long, and it either burns or drys out. I found some help….

So I’m going to try out the fried chicken.

For desert, my own recipe of apple crisp over ice cream. I will let you know how it all turns out and posts some recipes. :p

Pregnancy Journal week 14 (1/2) lol

Week 14 (1/2),

Finally, the second trimester! I am feeling better, although this still seems to come in waves. I thought I was feeling better earlier this week, and sure enough, as usual the heat from the water of the shower made me so sick the other morning. Yuck! So much for that meatloaf the night before (lol). I am starting to show, although I think I am just looking fat. My pants are getting more uncomfortable every day, although I am still able to wear them (with the button unsnapped of course, lol). Kenny took me out to get some maternity clothes, but it seems as though less and less places are carrying it. Anyway, I picked out a cute dress, tank top, and blouse. Still no pants (got to work on that one). And my monthly dr appointment was rescheduled again from tomorrow to next Friday! Now I have to wait another week to hear that little thumper L (the highlight of my month). Oh well. I am really looking forward to find out what we are having next month. Kenny thinks it’s a boy (mainly because he really wants one), but I think it’s a girl just a feeling I get. And all of the dreams of delivering a baby girl, who knows what those dreams mean? They are all very strange these days. (In between the nightly potty breaks to the bathroom, at least 2 a night, good times….yeah not so much!)

Amy and I were emailing back and forth all day with links to cute maternity tops on ebay, she even bought me a couple. What a sweet sister, huh? Love ya Aim. These are the tops….

Spring Ahead?

Umm, no thank you? I’d rather not, boy do I wish I had a choice. Waking up at 5:00, what would have been 4:00am is so unholy. Today was disgusting! I was so tired I could have fallen asleep walking around. This just isn’t any fun :(

Pregnancy Cravings

I have had major pregnancy food aversions and cravings lately. Yesterday after work, but before dinner, I was starving! I ate, two pieces of toast with cinnamon and sugar on top, almost and entire jar of pickles, and a spoon full of peanut butter! I know looking back it sounds pretty disgusting, but right now it is 7:27 am, and all I could think about are tacos. Oh my, what I would give for some yummy tacos! Although, Im sure they wouldnt make it to the stomach thanks to lingering  morning sickness, but it sounds good anyway. Another thing I can’t get out of my mind…..drumsticks! I got to go get one today, LOL.

I don’t get it, since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve been craving fruit, and salads, and smoothies…no joke! That’s all I have been eating (when I can eat anyway). But since my appetite is coming back the past week or so, the cravings are getting not so healthy, Oh Lord help me now. Will it just get worse too? Uh-oh I’m in for it!

13 weeks!

You are 13 weeks pregnant — this is the last week of yourfirst trimester! The first trimester ends when the fetus is about 12 weeks old, which is about 14 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period. During week 13 of pregnancy, you may find yourself starting to actually look pregnant — you may have a “bump.” Also, your morning sickness and moodiness may finally be getting better. Your baby is now 2.6 to 3.1 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at 0.5 to 0.7 ounces. (about the equivalent length of your index finger!) At 13 weeks pregnant, your baby can now probably flex its arms and kick its legs. He or she may also be able to put a thumb in his or her mouth, although the sucking muscles are not yet completely developed.

Other fetal development that occurs when you are 13 weeks pregnant typically includes the following:
  • The appearance of fingernails
  • The beginnings of fingerprints and footprints
  • The appearance of tooth buds for all 20 baby teeth
  • The start of vocal cord formation
  • The movement of eyes (closer together) and the ears (to a normal position)
  • The appearance of visible ribs
  • The development of the trachea, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestines into their final functioning form.

During week 13 of pregnancy, many of your early pregnancy symptoms may have subsided or will soon. Anxiety may also decrease because the risk of miscarriage is significantly less after the twelfth week of pregnancy. You may feel some abdominal pain during week 13 of pregnancy as the ligaments that hold up your uterus stretch to accommodate it as it grows. This is called “round ligament pain.” Remember to rest if you are feeling tired; your body is still adjusting to the pregnancy.

Strange Pregnancy Dreams

I have been having some crazy dreams lately. Most of them are about baby, and I got to say after last nights dream. I was almost certain we are having a baby girl. My dream felt so vivid, so real. That I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby girl. She was so beautiful too. That was the good part of my dream, the rest of it was that my whole church was in the hospital room, and they were passing my precious baby girl around the room, before I even had a chance to cradle her in my arms. I was devastated, finally I started screaming at this sweet little old lady at our church to give me my baby, she said uh oh, your auntie wants to hold you, here you go to autie. I’m all, Ummm no….I am MOMMY, NOT AUNTIE.

Very strange, this isn’t the first dream that I have had someone or myself refer to me as the auntie. I don’t get it. Anyway, this is definitely not the strangest dream I’ve had these pregnant days. Quit a few of delivering our child, one of which was a baby girl puppy! LOL, that one is still funny, and scary!

For some strange reason I get a strong girl feeling latley. Who knows if it means girl? But It’s interesting

Cookbook Recipe# 2: Gourmet BBQ Chicken Pizza

Here is one of my favorite and easiest recipes to make.

Here is what you need:

Premade, or store bought pizza crust (Boboli works great for me)

1 1/2 c. of shredded cheese (cheddar, Mexican, Colby jack any of these work great)

1/2 c. cooked diced up chicken breast (also rotisserie chicken works well too)

about 1/3 c. of BBQ sauce

1/2 sliced red onion

1/2 can of corn

1/2 can of black beans

chopped up cilantro

Cook chicken in BBQ sauce until cooked through, dice into small pieces. If using rotisserie chicken peel off white meet and drizzle a little bit of BBQ sauce on meat, stir to coat.

Meanwhile, add 1/2 can of black beans and 1/2 can of corn to colander. Rinse, mix, and drain well. (Sometimes I find it easier to add the entire can of both the black beans and the corn, since this recipe only calls for 1/2 of the corn and bean mixture, you can freeze half of the mixture for your next BBQ chicken pizza)

Next, place your boboli crust on a pizza baking pan, or a flat cookie sheet

Pour BBQ sauce over pizza crust. You do not want too much, just enough to spread evenly on top of crust, spread to the outer edges leaving about an inch of crust exposed without sauce around the outer edges.

Sprinkle cheese over BBQ sauce enough to coat evenly, next sprinkle chicken evenly over cheese.

Place the corn and bean mixture on top of chicken evenly coating pizza.

Add another layer of cheese on top of the corn and bean mixture, sprinkle to coat. Next sprinkle slices of red onion and chopped cilantro on top of pizza.

Bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. Goes great with a side salad.
